Camille Orders, a lifestyle influencer originally from Australia, offers a captivating tour of her Greenpoint, Brooklyn home. Camille, who has lived in the U.S. for ten years, shares how she, along with her best friend and business partner Brandy How, designed a vibrant and unique living space. Let’s dive into the highlights of Camille's eclectic home.

Master Bedroom

Camille's master bedroom is a stunning blend of purple and green, her favorite colors. The room features hand-painted furniture by her friend Michelle Kesselman and elegant swivel chairs by the late designer Jacob Norell. The centerpiece is Camille’s extravagant “princess bed,” which perfectly reflects her grand personality.

Wood Room

The Wood Room offers a refreshing contrast to the master bedroom with its lighter, airy ambiance. Designed with a photoshoot-friendly aesthetic, this room features psychedelic wallpaper and DIY crown molding that frames the wallpaper beautifully. Camille and Brandy’s DIY projects, like the custom lampshades, add a personal touch to the space.

Blue Room

Known as the Blue Room, this third bedroom is a cozy retreat with a reupholstered love seat and a unique round mattress bed. The room showcases Brandy’s biomorphic mirrors and a data-print bed frame, blending creativity with comfort. Camille's approach to design, guided by Brandy, brings her imaginative ideas to life in a cohesive way.

Kitchen

Camille’s kitchen is a dream for anyone who loves to cook. With a preference for gas stoves, Camille enjoys the efficiency and practicality of her kitchen, which also includes a double oven and dishwasher. The space is designed to be both functional and inviting.

Red Room

Once an office, the Red Room has been transformed into a moody hangout spot. With striking red walls, crown molding, and unique ceiling details, this room is perfect for relaxing and watching movies. The beaded chandelier and custom furniture pieces add to the room's distinctive character.

Dining Area and Unique Finds

Camille’s dining area features a beautiful table and chairs by the same designer as her bedroom pieces. The Morana glass chandelier and floor lamp are standout elements, reflecting the high-quality craftsmanship. The room also includes a bar cart, gramophone, and bird cage, all adding to the eclectic vibe of the home.

Living Room

The living room is anchored by a conversation couch, reupholstered from a brown leather piece found in Miami. The one-of-a-kind bookshelf behind the couch is a mix of French and Asian styles, featuring antique and Amazon finds. This space, designed for engaging conversations, showcases Camille’s eye for unique and meaningful decor.

Tips For Curating Art for Your Luxury Apartment

There are few things in a young adult's life that scream "luxury" more than living in an apartment in New York City with fine art. Someday, you might move on from your seventeenth-floor flat with happy memories in tow, but your artwork will always come with you.

It’s becoming the latest design must-have as well. According to Yelp's 2022 Home Trend Forecast Report, there was an increase of 181% for art installation search terms, indicating a shift toward creativity and self-expression in interior design.

Meanwhile, Sotheby's 2021 Historic Year In Review saw a 78% expansion into the 40-and-under demographic — a new trend for art market audiences. However, despite its importance to home design, art is often an afterthought for many people.

For those who prefer the finer things in life, it may be best to reconsider your stance on incorporating visually-pleasing pieces into your space. Here are five tips for curating art for your luxury apartment.

1. Choose Your Mood

Anybody with a Pinterest account knows the addiction of pinning design inspiration for your dream home — what starts as a few minutes to pass the time ends up being hours later.

Creating a separate board for art is an excellent way to discover your preferences, especially since the first step to curation is uncovering what feeling you want to elicit in each room. Do you want to create a bright and sunny mood, a relaxing sensation or something dramatic?

Maybe you have an affinity for color or wild prints to pop against a white wall or neutral furniture, creating an adventurous vibe. On the other hand, you might prefer your artwork to blend into the space or to make a gallery wall for a more organized atmosphere.

Figuring out the mood you want to convey is essential before selecting paintings and sculptures to fill the space. Studies show art promotes the aesthetic-emotional experience, activating the self-rewarding nature of the brain and stimulating pleasure, health and well-being.

2. Start Small

Filling your rooms with large paintings and ornate sculptures can overwhelm your senses. Each piece will fight for attention and the whole area will feel a chaotic mix of designs.

Start small and look for ways to utilize artwork to brighten overlooked areas in your apartment. You might be surprised by the massive impact smaller pieces can have. Additionally, acquiring your collection one piece at a time allows you to uncover your artistic tastes while experimenting with ways to fill awkward corners and spaces with visual intrigue.

You can find bronze sculptures for sale here or through an online search, plus plenty of painting selections. Be sure to mix up your mediums not only to avoid monotony but also to help you discover what impresses you.

3. Be Particular

Art curation can be overwhelming when you’re beginning your collection. Going piece by piece is a gentler approach to becoming an art enthusiast, but being selective about your choices is also critical. You might risk a massive design faux pas if you purchase all of your art at once.

Purchasing your first work of art is the stepping stone to creating an immaculate collection for your luxury apartment. Your first piece may be an obvious choice for you, so build off that painting, print or sculpture to shape the rest of your art design.

Figuring out how to illuminate what you acquire is just as important — particularly in dark areas where it might get lost. Consider the finishes and decide what sort of lighting works best. For instance, framed acrylic paintings, watercolors and photographs may require LED lights to prevent glare and shine from the glass.

4. Budget

Art can be expensive — and as a young adult just starting to source art, you might be seeing dollar signs everywhere.

Any art collector will agree you don't have to fill your apartment with rare paintings from renowned artists and break the bank. Set aside a budget for your art collection and determine what you can currently afford. Wanting to add unique pieces to your space is understandable, but affordable alternatives are usually available.

For example, limited edition prints are original artwork an artist sells for a specific time in small batches. If you’re all about having something unique, try finding a few artists you love and research the next time they’ll be doing a limited run.

5. Buy Commissioned Art

The art sales market has increased 17% after a significant drop during the pandemic — and while there's been an uptick of 5.3 million more transactions since 2020, it's still below pre-pandemic figures.

Artists rely on collectors to earn an income. As such, commissioning your first significant piece may do two things — allow you to include a fully-personalized, unique work that stands out and support struggling artists.

Commissions are more accessible than ever as more independent artists find their way to online and mobile sales platforms, reaching broader audiences and deepening connections with art collectors. If an artist is open for commissions, inquire about their prices and what kind of piece you would like.

Surround Yourself With Beautiful Art at Home

Learning how to curate your art collection for your luxury apartment can tie together a design that speaks to your personality and passions. It also helps you create a beautiful space that feels like an art museum, heightening the atmosphere of daily life and any events you hold.

Use these tips to determine the best way to fill your home with art that speaks to your tastes and accentuates your living space.

Space-Saving Alternatives to the Classic Dining Room

Square footage can be a hot commodity when it comes to living space. Urban rentals are especially notorious for a lack of space. When physical space is limited, a dining room or designated dining area may be the first thing to go. On the flip side, you may find yourself needing your dining space for another purpose.

Given that most people don’t use a formal dining area these days, that space may serve you better if you use it in another way. Whatever your dining space needs are (or aren’t), there’s a solution for you.

1. Multipurpose Furniture Arrangements

If you’re looking to add a dining area to your rental but your square footage to work with is less than plentiful, you might want to consider a multipurpose furniture arrangement. Especially when you’re renting, you won’t be able to expand your space, so it’s important to utilize the space you do have in the smartest way possible.

Maybe your rental has a built-in furniture feature, such as a window seat or extended kitchen counter. If you have a window seat, you can use it as a reading nook or lounging spot, but a table and some chairs can turn it into a functional dining area.

With 86% of home buyers preferring a kitchen/dining area combination, it’s likely you may have some extra counter space that you can add a few barstools to, and it can serve as a great spot for entertaining or your everyday dining needs without the need for a formal dining set and designated room.

If you’re creating a space entirely out of your own furniture, consider using benches or tables with extra storage. This can offer you a solution to a lack of storage, or allow you to use this space for multiple purposes.

With the advent of remote and hybrid work, you may need to use your dining area as a workspace as well. Simply stow away your work materials when you’re clocked out, and enjoy your meals in a cozy dining area.

2. Utilize Other Areas of Your Living Space

Even if you don’t have a dedicated dining area, you might have another area that can double as a dining and living space.

If your rental is blessed with an outdoor living area and favorable weather, consider adding a dining set to your outdoor setup. Depending on the space, you may be able to accommodate a bistro set or a formal dining set. Either way, adding dining space to your outdoor living setup can give you the benefits of outdoor time and the perfect place to enjoy your meals, weather permitting.

Unfortunately, not all of us have the luxury of a usable outdoor area or the climate that allows for its use. Without a dedicated room or area for dining, you may have to make your own with the living space you do have. If a lack of square footage is your main concern, try some space-saving techniques like using the corners and wall space you do have available.

3. Use Your Dining Space for Another Purpose

You might find yourself needing more space, but not for a dining area. Maybe you have a formal dining area and an eat-in kitchen, and don’t utilize your dining space often enough to justify keeping it around for that purpose.

If you have a dining space in your home that you don’t find yourself using, you might consider using that space for something else that will serve you and your lifestyle better.

Depending on the setup of your living space, a guest room may be the perfect replacement for your formal dining area. Even if this has less privacy than you’d like to offer your guests, using room dividers or curtains can supplement both privacy and an aesthetic touch.

With the right vision, an unused dining area can provide an excellent home for really any spatial needs you may have outside of mealtime. If you find yourself getting a lot of work done at home, give yourself an adequate space for productivity and turn that dining area into a home office.

A keyboard and drums might find a home in your repurposed dining area if you’re a musician looking for a spot to practice. You might even want to swap out the dining table for a pool table and enjoy your new game room.

Get Creative With Your Dining Space

Whether you find your dining area becoming dispensable in your lifestyle or you don’t feel you have enough space for a dedicated dining space, there’s always an answer to your problem. Even if you’re renting, one of the most exciting things about having your own space is making it yours. Getting creative with the limits put on your living space can make it feel all the more like home.

Contemporary Fall Decor Trends for Your Home

As the weather begins to cool and the leaves start turning, it only makes sense to reflect that comfortable, cozy feeling inside your home. The holidays are coming up and nature-inspired colors are all around. Whether you’re in the mood to switch up your decor or you’re starting from the ground up, there are plenty of options to choose from.

Here are some contemporary fall decor trends for your home. These options can make your home feel like the ideal autumnal retreat, and may encourage you to get cozy and snug for the season — even if you leave far from country farmland.

1. Pumpkins

Sometimes you just can’t go wrong with the classics, and pumpkins are about as classic as things come. Whether you go with the completely traditional all-orange pumpkins or you pick out a few white and green gourds to spice things up, they are classy and sophisticated choices for any home.

You can always carve up some jack-o-lanterns, but the contemporary look is to keep these vegetables intact. A bonus? They’ll last longer this way, meaning you may be able to avoid multiple trips to the pumpkin patch — unless you’re looking for more autumnal getaways, of course.

2. Candles

If you want a bit of subtle warmth and Gothic charm in your space, look no further than candles to do the trick. Whether you deck the center of your dining table in full candlestick glory or you fill your fireplace with candles for a classy glow, there are so many ways to bring warmth to your space.

For contemporary design that’s actually a throwback to old-fashioned classics, look for petty candlesticks and tapered candles to get an elegant look for autumn. Candles encased in glass are still fantastic elements, of course — and you can support small crafters by perusing fall markets for handcrafted fall scents.

3. Natural Materials

The fall has so many amazing natural choices to offer when it comes to decor, so why not utilize them? Leaves, fresh flowers and autumnal plants can make their way into your home for a wonderful outdoorsy charm. If you want to get into the fall spirit, hang a natural wreath on your front door or spring for some fresh flowers on your kitchen table.

Autumn is all about bountiful harvests, so it’s not the time to give up on natural decor. Green leaves and flowers can still deliver on a fresh look without needing to switch to hay and colored leaves.

4. Get Dark

If you hear fall and think “Halloween,” you’re in luck. Halloween decoration isn’t just for kids — you can embrace darker elements in sophisticated ways. There are so many classy, contemporary ways to decorate your place for the spooky season.

One of the best ways to show off your Gothic spirit is to get dark with your decor. Of course, you can’t paint the walls black for one season of the year, but you can get dark throw pillows, flowers and even art to hang seasonally while you wait for Allhallow’s Eve. Turning your contemporary space into a Gothic-inspired mansion is a great way to celebrate Halloween without plastic skeletons and cartoon jack-o-lanterns.

5. Cozy Blankets and Pillows

There’s nothing better than cozying up with a cup of hot chocolate under the blankets while you watch a scary movie with friends. Therefore, the coziest and most comfortable fixings must be in store.

Stacking your space with the coziest blankets and throw pillows for decorative and practical purposes is exactly what you need to do come autumn. Put them on the bed, the couch and in every corner of your home — you’ll likely use every last one of them.

6. Transition Outdoor Living Space

City dwellers with a balcony or outdoor courtyard know how precious this living space is, so there’s no reason to abandon it once autumn arrives. This season is a great transitional time for your outdoor living space, letting you deck it out with warmer elements before you need to guard against winter snow.

Outdoor pillows and throws can also help you cozy up on cool fall nights, though you may want to keep an eye on rain reports to know when to store them inside. Outdoor lighting including lanterns and warm-toned string lights can add some seasonal twinkle. Imagine how nice Thanksgiving would be at your home if you can cap off the night with an outdoor cocktail.

7. Light It Up

Once you’re done stringing lights outside, it’s time to rethink lighting in your interior, too. One of the best ways to decorate your place for autumn is by bringing in the warmth using lighting. It begins to get darker outside earlier in the fall, making your lights even more important than they are during the summertime.

Try creative candles, fairy lights and warmer light bulbs to match the season. This can serve both for function and aesthetics. You may not get that bright summer sun any more, but you can still embrace pleasing lighting for a darker season.

8. Aromatherapy

Even though aromatherapy isn’t a form of decor you can see, it definitely contributes to any space. Autumn has so many scents that are truly symbolic of the season, so it should be easy to find candles, incense and even air fresheners that match your home’s decor.

Whether you tend to be a bigger fan of essential oils or the classic scented candle, go for scents like cinnamon, bergamot, cranberry, cedar, sage and other autumnal aromas.

Contemporary Fall Decor Trends for Your Home

From classic and natural options to the comfortable, cozy and Gothic, there are so many ways to decorate your home for fall. Whether you love pumpkins, raw materials or the spooky spirit of Halloween, you can find decor that matches your taste while you shop around for your favorite looks this season.

4 Fixture Additions that Can Increase Your Home’s Value

Everyone wants to add beauty to their home. Renovations are always an excellent way for homeowners to add their personal touch to their living space. Whether creating shelving as a fun DIY project or putting on a new paint job for the home office, homeowners enjoy showing their creativity while enhancing their house’s appearance.

There are even more extensive options for home additions that you can use, which may increase a home’s real estate value. If you’re selling your home soon, or just want to add to its market value for the future, fixtures are an excellent option. Keep in mind that the kitchen and bathroom are important areas in any home. Ensuring comfort and style in these areas is always important. A stylish renovation can offer practical and visually pleasing improvements to these spaces. Whether you're considering a Cupertino bathroom renovation or any other area, upgrading with quality fixtures can greatly enhance your property's overall appeal and value. Whether you’re looking to redesign your kitchen or to upgrade your windows with between the glass blinds, here are four fixture additions that can increase your home’s value.

unsplash-image-FqqiAvJejto.jpg

1. Small Additions to the Bathroom

Fixtures are different from other home additions. Home entertainment upgrades, such as a new TV or surround sound system, can come with you after a potential move-out. Fixtures, on the other hand, are permanently attached to the ceiling, floor, or walls. However, this provides the potential benefit for fixture enhancements to raise the value of your home.

Bathrooms are one of the most essential rooms in any house. You can start here with your fixture additions. However, you don’t have to spend thousands of dollars on new renovations or other upgrades. Simple bathroom fixtures such as attaching a brass or steel towel rack to the wall can provide a great appearance.

Other minor additions or replacements you can do in the bathroom yourself include:

  • Installing a new shower door

  • Attaching a vintage medicine cabinet to the wall

  • Replacing your old bathroom faucet

  • Affix more stylish mirrors above the sink

In just a day or two, you could have a fully-upgraded bathroom. It may even cost less money than you think, while also raising your home’s property value.

2. Upgrade Your Window Treatment

Perhaps you have the same blinds on your windows that you’ve had for years. Or maybe your windows themselves need some improvement. Now might be the perfect time to think about upgrading the window treatment in your home.

You’ll first want to take down your old window coverings. It’s best to use a screwdriver for this step. Make sure you have a tape measure. You’ll need specific measurements for the length and width of your new window treatment. You can usually round off to the nearest 1/8 of an inch.

In terms of choosing your new window treatment upgrade, it depends on your specific style. Vertical blinds are an excellent option for large windows or sliding glass doors. This lets the blinds filter light and enhances the height of the room. Shades, meanwhile, are another worthwhile selection. They’re highly versatile and come in a variety of materials. Roman and honeycomb shades are two great examples. Alternatively, however, you could choose to opt for residential window tinting in Carrollton or wherever you are located. This option is beneficial if you're looking to reduce glare, improve privacy, and add value to your home in one sleek solution that offers long-term benefits.

No matter your choice, upgrading your window treatment can add some flair to your rooms. Installing these fixtures, or having a professional do it for you, can help raise your home’s value too.

3. Replace Outdated Kitchen Appliances

Let’s face it: doing an entire remodeling of your kitchen would cost thousands of dollars. Replacing countertops, retiling the floor, and doing an entire refurbishing takes time out of your schedule--and more importantly, money out of your wallet. At that point, you might be spending more than the value you’re adding on.

Instead, concentrate on replacing the more outdated appliances in your kitchen. Whichever device you’re shopping for, make sure that they have the ENERGY STAR logo. This logo means that they’re energy-efficient and will save you (or, if you’re selling your home, the future homeowner) money.

If their models are old, then replacing your refrigerator or stove is highly recommended. These are appliances that are often used for cooking and storing food. Slide-in stoves, in particular, give your home more value than freestanding ones. You may also want to consider replacing your dishwasher, especially if you’ve had the same model for more than ten years. Additionally, if you’re looking to buy a slow juicer, this is the perfect time to upgrade. A modern, self-feeding juicer not only enhances your kitchen’s functionality but also brings convenience and health benefits with every use.

4. Enhance Your Lighting

Lighting design is a part of home improvement that you might not have thought about. However, it can be an excellent way to enhance your rooms’ appearance and add some property value to your home.

There are many different areas of your home that you can add lighting sources to or replace existing lighting fixtures. For instance, you can add recessed lighting to the living room for a more ideal amount of brightness. You can also replace a basic chandelier over the dinner table with a model such as a drum shade or vintage-style chandelier, which will add a gorgeous appearance to the room. Keep an eye out on the marketplace for gorgeous led chandeliers, which are becoming increasingly popular in modern homes. In general LED lighting or LED bulbs wherever possible take a lot less electricity than either and reduce our impact on the planet. Switch on to the latest lighting trends on LED Ceiling Light Co.

These are just a few examples. No matter your lighting design idea or which room you decide on, enhancing your lighting fixtures can add style and value to your home.

Homeowners everywhere want a charming look for their house. Upgrading their homes with these fixtures can not only bring more elegance to your home but can also add property value if done right. With these tips, we’re confident that you can complete these fixture additions and increase your home’s value.
