“While this past year was extremely challenging, our talented agents persevered. Through their hard work and dedication, our brokerage was able to surpass its 2019 sales volume despite a global pandemic,” said Howard M. Lorber, Executive Chairman, Douglas Elliman Realty, LLC. “Even though we cannot celebrate together in person as in years past, it is important for us to honor our incredibly skilled agents and present well-deserved awards for their extraordinary success.”

Nationwide sales for Douglas Elliman in 2020 totaled $29.6 billion as the company continued its nationwide growth into new markets. The firm was responsible for 46,303 sales and rental transactions.

In the Hamptons, Elliman closed $2.9B in sales volume in 2020 – a staggering $1.5 Billion over the previous year’s volume. Over the course of the year, Elliman closed on 3,425 units (sales and rentals combined), up from 1,992 units in the year prior. Elliman claimed two of the region’s top 5 residential sales including the $50M sale of 187 Dune Road in Bridgehampton by Erica Grossman and the $45M sale of 26 & 32 Windmill Lane in East Hampton by Paul Brennan and Martha Gundersen. Other top Elliman sales included 38 Two Mile Hollow Road in East Hampton [$24M] represented by Bonny Aarons and Janette Goodstein and 25 Potato Road in Sagaponack Village [$20.5M] represented by Douglas Elliman’s Hara Kang, Justin Agnello and James Keogh of The Atlantic Team and Michael Lorber and Erica Grossman.

Elliman also closed on the East End’s biggest commercial deal of 2020, with Enzo Morabito and Adam Rothman representing the sale of the Water Street Shops in Sag Harbor, which will be transformed into the permanent home of the Bay Street Theater.

“Undoubtedly, we navigated uncharted waters in 2020 and experienced a market that we’ve never before seen in The Hamptons,” said Todd Bourgard, Douglas Elliman’s Senior Executive Regional Manager of Sales for the Hamptons. “Our Hamptons agents rose to the occasion, expertly adapting to unforeseen changes in the way we do business, and in the end, we broke more records in the number of sales and in the volume of sales than we ever thought possible. It’s all a testament to the resiliency, work ethic and drive of our talented agents, who continue to lead the marketplace, and I’m so proud of their extraordinary accomplishments.”

Inside The Last Wilson Eyre Home In Long Island

Meadowcroft, the last remaining Long Island home by famed architect and House & Garden magazine founder Wilson Eyre, is now on the market for $13 million with Enzo Morabito of Douglas Elliman. Located at 767 Montauk Hwy the 6.91-acre waterfront estate and the 9,000-square-foot home, which features eight bedrooms and seven-and-a-half baths.

The circa-1904 Arts and Crafts-style estate at 767 Montauk Highway in Quiogue was built by Eyre just past the turn of the century for industrialist Theodore Conklin. Conklin's grandson, Ted, a former mayor of Westhampton Beach, was born at the family home. His great grandson, Ted Conklin, owns the famed American Hotel in Sag Harbor. Five generations of the Conklin family gathered, sailed, played and lived at the mansion, sited on Quantuck Bay, before selling it in 1989.

The lighting was all done by Louis Comfort Tiffany, a friend of Conklins, whose business was around the corner from T.E. Conklin Brass & Copper on Lafayette Street in lower Manhattan. Tiffany used Conklin's metal fabrications in brass and bronze for his famed lamps.

In addition to the Tiffany lighting, the home still features the original woodwork, hardware and other touches--including the original 1904-engraved door knocker and the original double-swing carriage doors, a number of custom / bespoke fireplaces and 100-plus-year-old rhododendrons. Notable amenities include a brick-ceilinged basement; a red clay roof, with tiles that were imported from France; oversized swimming pool that overlooks the bay; a dock; wine cellar, movie screening room, billiards room + outdoor billiard table; gym, staff quarters with separate entrance; a small cottage and accessory buildings.

The estate is also the focus of the book "Meadowcroft: A Century of Elegance in the Hamptons'' by Michael McKenzie. I'd be glad to get you a copy. It's also featured in the seminal East End architectural history book, "Houses of the Hamptons: 1880 - 1930" by Gary Lawrance and Anne Surchin.

Traditionally, the Race of Hope takes place in Southampton every summer and has been one of the charity’s signature events since 2015. This year, the Race will go virtual with an online opening ceremony and countdown on August 2, 2020.

The Drive-By lunch took place on a perfect, sunny day in front of the Southampton Cultural Center on Pond Lane.  HDRF Founder and Chair Audrey Gruss donned a running cap, tee-shirt and face mask in HDRF’s signature sunshine yellow; she waved and thanked guests as they drove by in their cars to receive a delicious picnic lunch to take home. Race of Hope Co-Grand Marshals Jamee Gregory and Arthur Dunnam also joined Gruss to greet guests.

Over 30 top donors attended, lining up by car on Pond Lane, which was decorated with HDRF’s HOPE yellow balloons (recyclable and environmentally friendly). Each guest received a straw basket tied with yellow ribbon and brimming with a lunch of sliced chicken, two side salads, cheese platter, cookies and brownies and fresh cherries and peaches. The baskets were generously provided by Race sponsor Eli Zabar. Other major sponsors are Findlay Galleries and Livingston Builders.

Martin Gruss led the procession of arriving cars in a bright yellow 1972 vintage Ferrari. Giant “Stand with Me” banners of past HDRF celebrity honorees, with quotes about overcoming depression, were lined up to remind guests that depression advocacy is critical for reducing stigma and sparking life-saving conversations.

Audrey Gruss said: “Depression is a grand-challenge public health issue that was critical before COVID-19 and imperative now. Mental health needs to be a top priority for our nation now, and we are so thankful to all our Southampton supporters who are answering the call.”

She added: “Depression is the Number One reason for disability and suicide worldwide, and yet over 35% of people do not respond to conventional medications. That is why HDRF’s advanced research into new and better treatments is so urgent.”

Guests included: Lisa Aery, Steve Bernstein, Janna Bullock, Amanda Gruss Chambers, Eliza Nordeman Davis, Roy Cohen, Max Federbush, Alex Schaffel, Bambi and Roger Felberbaum, Lucia Hwong Gordon, Alan Glatt, Peter Gregory, Kim Heirston, Mariana Kaufman, Anne S. Nordeman, Scott Snyder, Clelia and Tom Zacharias, Richard Ziegelasch, and Silvia Zoullas.

The drive-by lunch kicks off the Hope for Depression Research Foundation’s Virtual 5K Race of Hope, the same race that has been a summer highlight in Southampton since 2015. This year, all registered runners and walkers can choose their own race route wherever they may be in the country.

LongHouse Reserve Celebrates Opening of Ai Weiwei's Circle of Animals/Zodiac Heads

LongHouse Reserve held a small, private outdoor celebration last Saturday for their new installation by Ai Weiwei: Circle of Animals/Zodiac Head: Bronze. 30 donors and board members gathered in the East Hampton garden wearing masks and making socially distant air kisses.

Founder Jack Lenor Larsen created a unique installation of the 12 large sculptural heads by burying their marble bases around the perimeter of LongHouse's outdoor Albee Amphitheater, allowing visitors to experience the sculptures at almost eye level.

Carol Steinberg, Frank Namad, Jane Johnson

Carol Steinberg, Frank Namad, Jane Johnson

Guests included LongHouse board members Dianne Benson and Lys Marigold, Sherri Donghia and Roger Eulau, Peter Olsen, Suzanne Slesin and Michael Steinberg, Jo Ann and Lee Skolnick, Matko Tomicic, as well as Susie and Michael Gelman, Nina Gillman, Tony Ingrao and Randy Kemper, Deborah Nevins, and Ellie Warsh, to name only a few.

The enormous distances the Zodiac Heads have travelled can be compared with the experiences of the artist. In April 2011, Ai Weiwei was detained for 81 days and later released from secret captivity by Chinese Authorities, but his passport was confiscated and he remained under house arrest until July 2015. For the duration of the Zodiac Heads: Bronze exhibition in Chicago in 2014, the sculptures were hooded as a reminder that the artist was still held in China. He now resides in Berlin and Oxford.

This exhibition is the third time the celebrated Chinese artist has participated with LongHouse; in 2013, he was honored with the LongHouse Award. At the time under house arrest in Beijing, he sent a video as an acceptance speech. In 2013 Ai’s Circle of Animals/Zodiac Heads: Gold was also exhibited at LongHouse Reserve

LongHouse Reserve, a 16-acre sculpture garden, is open to the public Wednesday through Saturday from 1pm-5pm. See: https://www.longhouse.org
