Reality Stars Take Center Court At The US Open Grey Goose Suite

Last night, the US Open women’s semifinals concluded in a pair of stunning showdowns, with Canadian Leylah Annie Fernandez set to face off against the UK’s Emma Raducanu this weekend. But the real excitement was happening off the courts as several reality TV stars surveyed the matches from the Grey Goose Suite! Former Bachelorette Clare Crawley was seen arm-in-arm with her fiancé Dale Moss throughout most of the tournament. They were seated nearby Paige Desorbo from Bravo’s Summer House who also couldn’t get enough of the action from the matches.

From New York to Salzburg Austria: Marifé Hernández and Joel Bell hosted a dinner at the Sacher Hotel’s Wintergarten on August 12th reuniting friends of the Vienna Philharmonic Society USA and Salzburg Festival Society USA for a celebration of Salzburg Festival’s 100th Anniversary.

Among the guests were violinist Hannah Cho of New York and trombonist Kelton Koch of Texas - two members of the first graduating class of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra Academy and playing with the Vienna State Opera Orchestra. The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra Academy, a longtime ambition of the Orchestra, was founded in the summer of 2018 to train talented young musicians in the unique musical style of the Vienna Philharmonic.  Significant annual funding from the Vienna Philharmonic Society USA made the dream a reality and ensured the inclusion of American students in every biennial class.

A pianist serenaded guests during cocktails and the fine continental meal that finished with a traditional Austrian dessert and specialty of the Hotel, sacher savarin (biscuit and fresh fruits soaked in rum, doused with vanilla cream).

Jack Lenor Larsen Laid To Rest And A Celebration Of His Life

Jack Lenor Larsen was interred at his beloved LongHouse Reserve in a small private ceremony last Saturday night.  His ashes were placed in a shaker box, wrapped in a length of silk, now resting in a spot he chose under a favorite tree by the pond he designed. His longtime gardeners, Bonifacio Rojas and Josue Rojas, dug his deep grave by hand.  30 friends gathered with his life companion, Peter Olsen. There were four readings: from Helen Drutt a poem, Alexandra Monroe from the Bhagavad Gita, Lys Marigold from the Episcopal Prayerbook. Peter Olsen attempted to read the Auden poem, Funeral Blues, but was too moved to continue past the first stanza.  It was finished by his sister.  The guests placed dark red rhododendrons blossoms on the grave.  It was a deeply poignant ceremony

The next day more than 300 friends and admirers came to Longhouses for a celebration of Jack’s life hosted by Peter and the Trustees of Longhouse. Dianne Benson, the chairman of their board spoke eloquently.  This is her speech in full:

“Everyone standing here on this hallowed ground loved Jack and that truly is the essence of LongHouse. It is wonderful to be among so many like-minded people on this beautiful day and a part of a living breathing organization that was the brainchild of one inimitable man with a vision so strong  and so magnetic that he gathered around him people like us.  It is our devotion to the man and our appreciation for what he has left us that will drive LongHouse into a vibrant future.

Additionally, during 2020, the team successfully sold out The Greenpoint, Citizen360, 56 Leonard, and 21 East 12th Street.  They achieved a record sale in the Financial District with the sale of the above-noted $19.5 million penthouse at 25 Park Row - and The Asbury Ocean Club penthouse sold for $5.5 million, the highest sales price ever in the historic seaside resort of Asbury Park, NJ.

The evening began with a heartfelt rendition of It Had To Be You from JoyJanJones. “Jack would have loved that” said Matko Tomicic, LongHouse Reserve Executive Director, “he was mesmerized with voice and the sounds of piano. Tonight, we have guests from all over the United States and even some tuning in from Europe, South America, and Japan. Just the way Jack would have liked it.”

Festivities included an exclusive tour of Larsen’s residence at LongHouse led by Honoree Architectural Critic, Paul Goldberger. Goldberger received the LongHouse Art Leadership Award. “LongHouse is like no other place I know. I can think of no other place in the world that is part design museum, part botanical garden, part sculpture park, part culture center. Not any one of these things, but all of them, in perfect balance” said Goldberger. LongHouse President, Dianne Benson, noted “we have been giving this award for 20 years. Each one is a little different, depending on who is being honored, but all embrace Jack’s life philosophy”. Visual Artist Shirin Neshat was honored with the LongHouse Award. “It’s very difficult to verbalize the importance of art and culture in the period that we are living in. I am extremely flattered and honored that my art has become a point of recognition in a time of crisis” said Neshat before sharing an inside look at her Brooklyn-based studio and the art she’s working on.

‘Loving Couple’ Honorary Chairs included Bill T. Jones and Bjorn Amelan, Eric Fischl and April Gornik, and Rufus Wainwright and Jörn Weisbrodt. “Our debut was at a LongHouse Winter Benefit. This wonderful place was a big part of the beginning of our love life” said Wainright and Weisbrodt. Love songs were performed throughout the evening by Laurie Anderson, Royal Khaoz, Nico Muhly, G.E. Smith and Taylor Barton-Smith, and Rufus Wainwright.

Eric Fischl and April Gornik shared, “What Jack accomplished was extraordinary. LongHouse is an absolute destination. Rare in this part of the world. It’s a treasure we have to, and will, keep going.”

The Valentine’s Day celebration came to a close with Dianne Benson echoing Eric and April with a heartfelt thank you to Jack. "We promise to love LongHouse, to keep it, and to make it better and better, just as you imagined.”

‘Love Boxes’, all including a Yoko Ono keepsake and others with cocktails, sake, champagne and sweet treats, were packaged glamorously and sent to guests as part of their ticket.
