Choosing the Perfect Time Share In New York City

August 03, 2021 by Eric Holt in Travel

There are a lot of people who tend to flinch when they hear the term timeshare. That's what years of jokes can do to something. However, for anyone who has found a place that they truly love to travel to, then a timeshare becomes a great idea to make sure that you can go back to that spot with some frequency. For those who are interested in getting a timeshare in the NYC area, there are a few things that need to be considered ahead of all other things.

See the Timeshare In Person Before You Sign Up

The unfortunate reality of timeshares is that their bad reputation has been earned by a marginal number of people running dishonest schemes. Oftentimes, this is done by making the timeshare look excellent online, and getting people to sign up for them, sight unseen. Of course, this is illegal. It's an internet crime, which is when someone uses the internet to falsely or fraudulently represent something to potential customers. Still, it does happen. That's why it's always important to go through a reputable property management company and see the timeshare that you're buying into before you do so.

Remember How Important Marketing Is

Marketing and branding can completely change how someone feels about a company or housing development. A lot of energy is put into this, which should make sense as half of the customers who enter a business do so because of the signage that they have up. Be aware of this, and don't fall for a good sign. Look past that baseline promotion that they have of themselves, and make sure that there is a high standard in everything that they do. Otherwise, you may not get everything that you want.

Pay Attention to Maintenance Costs and Fees

Depending on where you chose, there are going to be different maintenance fees associated with them. These can get to be very expensive. After all, between one and four percent of a home's value is spent on maintenance annually. This means that if a home is worth $200,000 it will incur $2,000 worth of maintenance annually. That's something that you need to be aware of and be prepared for. Otherwise, the cost can quickly become more than you were prepared for.

Make Sure You Like the Location

In a major city like New York, there are a wide variety of neighborhoods that offer you extensive different options for things to do. So, don't just choose the first timeshare that you come across. Go out and find a timeshare that's right for you and find it in the neighborhood that's right for you. Do you want to be around great restaurants? That's fine, there are plenty of great options to choose from and neighborhoods full of them. Maybe that's not what's important to you, but theaters and shopping are. Well, there are great neighborhoods with timeshares to fit that need. You can even want to be in the middle of the action or away from it all. Just check the neighborhood before you agree to a timeshare.

What Amenities Does the Timeshare Have?

Look closely at the amenities offered by a particular timeshare. This way you know that you're getting as much out of it as possible. Without doing this, you'll likely be stuck either paying too much for too little or paying for things you don't need. It's in here that the details matter to fully enjoy your timeshare experience.

Choosing a timeshare can be difficult, and while there is a lot to remember, just make sure to follow these basic rules. If you do that, then you're going to love the experience, and not have to worry about your travel for the foreseeable future.
