10 Best Things to Do Near NoHo District, LA

September 29, 2022 by Jeremy Lindy

North Hollywood, otherwise known as the NoHo district, is a stunning suburb situated in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles. It’s a laidback locale with a thriving art scene, a rich cultural heritage, and a diverse selection of entertaining activities.

There are cocktail bars and world-class eateries, festivals galore, and an abundance of theaters and art galleries. You can play a game of Bingo or Tombola in one of NoHo’s many recreational facilities, shop in unique boutiques, or watch an impromptu live performance from a street cafe.

The possibilities are as diverse as they are exciting. If you want to explore the best that North Hollywood has to offer, here are 10 activities guaranteed to provide a memorable experience.

1. Watch a live performance

Over 20 theaters dot the landscape of North Hollywood, ranging in size from small and cozy to big and bombastic.

When it comes to the shows themselves, there are Shakespearean classics, weird and wonderful originals, and everything in-between. Each and every theater is a magical world all on its own, and the best thing you can do is visit as many of them as possible.

2. Enjoy a spa day

Because of its relaxing atmosphere, the NoHo district is ideal for a day at the spa. Take full advantage by treating yourself to all the saunas, jacuzzis, and massages you need.

Feel the tension slip away as you relax in supreme comfort. You’ll leave feeling refreshed and rejuvenated, with more than enough energy to make the most of your trip. Be careful, though, you might end up enjoying it so much that you don’t want to leave!

3. Go on a sightseeing tour

A sightseeing tour of NoHo is the quickest way to see what’s on offer in the surrounding area, especially if it’s your first visit.

Topless bus tours will take you to all the most popular attractions, but there are other options to choose from as well. There’s a little something for every sightseer, including Hollywood behind-the-scenes tours and helicopter rides around the whole of LA.

4. Visit the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences

One stop-off you can’t afford to miss is the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences - home of the Primetime Emmy Awards.

The academy’s headquarters, located in the NoHo Arts District, has been a key contributor to the growth of our television industry. Certain sections of the property can be accessed by visitors with tours that provide eye-opening insight into the inner workings of the industry.

5. Take a tour of Universal Studios

Speaking of television, there’s an entire Universal Studios complex just 10 minutes away from the center of North Hollywood.

It’s a giant amusement park divided into two sections: the Upper Lot and the Lower Lot. The Upper Lot includes Harry Potter-themed exhibits, while the Lower Lot is dedicated to beloved franchises like Jurassic Park and Indiana Jones.

6. Stop by the Great Wall of LA

The Great Wall of Los Angeles isn’t 20 feet tall or 10,000 miles long, but it does have over 2,700 feet of artwork that combine to form one of the longest murals in the world.

The project was started back in 1978 by Judith Baca. Over 400 artists have worked on the wall since then, leading to an eclectic yet harmonious collection of truly inspiring artworks that can all be appreciated on a 20-minute stroll.

7. Adventure through Wildwood Canyon Park

Feel like getting away from civilization for a bit? Head to Wildwood Canyon Park, where the only distractions are singing birds and stunning views.

Most hiking trails are suitable for all ages, but there are a couple that are reserved for those who seek a challenge. If you’re in the mood for relaxation, there are picnic areas and several events throughout the year to look forward to.

8. Find food and drink tours

The NoHo district is home to dozens of delectable cuisines, so make sure to treat your tastebuds to some of the finest flavors in LA.

The food isn’t the only thing to look forward to. There’s also a healthy local wine industry and a growing wine culture, as well as a wide range of craft beers that have proven to be extremely popular with locals and visitors alike.

9. Get your game on at the Valley Plaza Sports Complex

If you’re looking for an all-in-one sports and entertainment venue, you can’t do much better than the Valley Plaza Sports Complex.

The center, also known as the Valley Plaza Recreation Center, has outdoor courts for all popular sports, two gymnasiums, and a full-size football field. Combined with picnic areas and barbeque pits, it’s the complete package for a day of fun and games.

10. Look out for inspiring works of art

Culture and creativity run deep in NoHo, which is why theaters and wall murals won’t give you the complete experience of the neighborhood’s art scene.

For that to happen, you need to head to The Noho Arts District. Best described as a concentrated community of artistic talent, it’s a square-mile collection of studios and galleries, all showcasing the best artists in the region.
