How To Stay Calm When You're Surrounded By Stress

We live in a stressful world. You don't need us to tell you that.

  • People honk their horns at each other when they are stuck in traffic on the road.

  • Your kids yell at each other when they are squabbling over something silly.

  • Your boss stomps around his office when he's in a bad mood.

  • Your partner slams the door after another bad day.

And you? You are trying to stay calm, but you are in danger of feeling the effects of stress when you are caught in all manner of fraught scenarios! How can you keep your head when all around people are losing theirs? It's not easy. But there are a few things you can try.

  • You can take something to create peace in your mind. Whether that's a prescribed medication or a natural remedy from a trusted dispensary, you can use something to help you right at that moment when chaos is threatening to break out around you.

  • You can take yourself out of the situation. This isn't always possible, but if you can find an escape route, then take it. Go for a walk in a place of natural beauty. Move yourself into a quieter room. Put on a pair of headphones and listen to some music to drown out the noise. If you don't need to be caught in a stressful scenario, then move yourself away from it.

  • Learn how to meditate. Use this simple guide to help you meditate anywhere. Whether you are feeling the strains of stress or you are surrounded by others who are creating stress around you, a few meditative techniques will lift you away from the chaos. You will be able to centre both your body and mind, and hopefully, bring a sense of calm into your life despite the stressful situation.

  • Be the peace-giver. If you get stressed and react to a situation, things may only get worse. Therefore, be that person who brings calm to your surroundings. After meditating and using some simple breathing techniques, be the person who brings order. Help those stressful others get some perspective. Distract them from the situation. Offer to mediate. When they have calmed down, you will be able to maintain your own sense of calm.

  • Drink tea. This is a very British thing to do, but it works! Most types of tea have some kind of calming effect, but there are some teas that are specifically designed to help you feel relaxed. Take a look at the offerings here. A quick cuppa will relax your frazzled mind, so wherever you go, always have a tea bag or two at hand to rescue you from the stressful world we live in.

We can't escape stress. It surrounds us every day, at home and at work. There will be times when you are directly caught up in a stressful situation, and times when you are simply a bystander to the tensions that are happening around you. Staying calm isn't easy, but use our advice, and hopefully, you will be able to keep your head, despite the stress that surrounds you.
