Staging Your Home and Making It Look Like You Hired a Designer

Being an interior designer can be a job that is pretty full-on and a job that really takes a long to perfect. Having the eye to design something so unique and add different touches to a room to pull it together so that it looks good but also works on a functional level certainly does take practice and skill. Of course, not everyone is going to be able to afford an interior designer to come into their home. So the good news is that there are a few tips and tricks that you can do with your existing furniture, by just making a few tweaks, to make your home look like a designer has styled it.

If you are thinking of selling your home, then being able to stage the home and showcase it as somewhere that potential buyers will want to live in can be a good idea. If you look online at sites like MakeHomes.com, you can see just what designer homes look like, and what you could help to make your home look like. The idea is that it can speed up the sale process if the home is left depersonalized and set up looking good. Moving or not, here are some tips to help you to stage or style your home so that it looks as good as it can possibly look.

Look For Inspiration

Looking online on sites like Pinterest.com or in home and interior magazines is going to be a great place to start. The reason being is that you can follow a look closely and see how others have done things. Something as simple as dressing a fireplace can be tricky to get right if you’re not very good at piecing things together. Which is why you can get ideas and then try to replicate the looks that you like, by getting similar candles, frames, or accessories that you see.

Color Scheme

The color scheme of a room can make it look cheap, designer, or luxurious, depending on the style of the home that you are looking for; color really does make a difference. The general rule is to choose three colors, no more, and work with that palette. It could be that the flooring is in one color, the walls are in another, and then accessories and curtains are in the other. Keep them around a similar theme and think about the light that you have coming into each room. If it is a pretty dark room, then avoid colors that are too dark.

Add Texture

Color is important in the home if you want to create a designer look, but so is texture. It may not be something you have thought of before, but it does make a difference. You can work around your three color palette, but work on the textures too. For instance, a room could have linen curtains, velvet armchair, woven throw, silky cushions, and a rattan basket, alongside a faux-fur rug. Layering up with texture is a good way to create a designer look.
