Spooky season is upon us! Now that it is Fall, pumpkin patches and apple picking have been added to the list of activities to do for this season. We can’t however, forget about the haunted houses too. Halloween is right around the corner, so what better way to spend the day than to look at some haunted houses. Surprisingly, there are in fact several listings that are said to be haunted:

76 North Broadway, Irvington

The Gothic Revival mansion was built in 1850, and if its brooding gables and turrets and crumbling interiors weren’t spooky enough, there’s the fact that the original owner, John Thomas, was standing and admiring his new home when the pitchfork he was holding was struck by lightning, killing him. Some say his spirit haunts the grounds.

176 Deforest Road, Montauk

One of the fabled “Seven Sisters” and the longtime home of talk show host and author Dick Cavett. The “Seven Sisters,” a group of Shingle-style homes constructed in the late 1800s were built as a private summer retreat for real estate developer Arthus Benson and his friends. When the original structure burned down in 1997, then-owners Dick Cavett and his wife Carrie Nye built an exact replica in its place, relying on photographs and their memories to reconstruct the house down to its most minute details. Their journey rebuilding the home was the subject of a 2003 documentary entitled From the Ashes: The Life and Times of Tick Hall.

1 Laveta Pl, Nyack

This New York Mansion was previously owned by Helen Ackley who lived in this Queen Anne Victorian at 1 LaVeta Place in Nyack. She had mentioned the presence of various poltergeists that regularly shook beds, slammed doors and traipsed the halls with their footsteps. It was in 1991 that the New York Supreme Court ruled the home as being officially haunted.
